Overview
Ensenada is the closest Mexican port to Southern California, which makes it the anchor stop on short 3- and 4-night Baja getaways out of Los Angeles and San Diego. Ships dock directly at the Naval Cruise Terminal beside the Malecón boardwalk, putting downtown's Avenida Primera — lined with the taco stands widely credited with inventing the fish taco — within a five-minute walk. Beyond town, the Valle de Guadalupe wine region and the La Bufadora blowhole both make for a worthwhile excursion if your port day allows the extra hour or so of driving.

Walk to the giant flagpole outside the terminal, then head into downtown along Avenida López Mateos for fish tacos and shopping — the whole loop takes a couple of hours and needs no transport at all.

Skip it for downtown and the fish tacos — it's a short, easy walk from the pier. Book an excursion for the Valle de Guadalupe wine region or La Bufadora blowhole, both roughly 45 minutes away and better done with transport arranged in advance.
