Freeport's cruise port itself sits in an industrial zone with little to see, so the real destination is Port Lucaya — a lively marketplace of shops, bars, and Count Basie Square, about 10 miles and a 20-minute drive away, where Lucaya Beach is a five-minute walk further on. It's a port that rewards a little planning: arrange a taxi or shuttle before you disembark, and you'll find one of the Bahamas' more laid-back beach towns along with Lucayan National Park's underwater cave system, one of the longest in the world.
