Freedom of the Seas
“The ship that pioneered FlowRider surfing at sea — amplified and still a Royal Caribbean favourite.”
Freedom of the Seas debuted in 2006 as the lead ship of the Freedom class and, at the time, the largest cruise ship in the world. She introduced the FlowRider surf simulator to the seas — a feature now found fleet-wide at Royal Caribbean. A $116 million Royal Amplified refurbishment in 2020 added the Perfect Storm racing waterslides, the Splashaway Bay water park, and the line's first Giovanni's Italian Kitchen. Now homeported in Miami, Florida, she specialises in short 3- and 4-night Bahamas getaways alongside longer Caribbean sailings, making her a popular pick for first-time cruisers and long-weekend escapes.
The original FlowRider surf simulator — Freedom of the Seas was the first ship in the world to carry one, and it remains a signature feature alongside the Perfect Storm waterslide duo added in her 2020 amplification.
