Bodrum's cruise pier sits a short, pleasant walk along the waterfront from the Castle of St. Peter, the 15th-century crusader fortress that now houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The town itself — all whitewashed buildings, a bustling bazaar, and a lively marina — is easy to explore without a guide, and the surrounding bays hide dozens of beach coves reachable by taxi or dolmuş minibus. Bodrum was also the site of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, whose foundations survive nearby.

Skip it for the castle and town — both are an easy walk from the pier. Book an excursion only for a full-day trip to Ephesus, which is about two hours away and needs a full port day to do properly.
