Cagliari is Sardinia's capital and largest city, built around a natural harbour with the fortified Castello district rising directly above it. A free shuttle bus (on cruise-call days) links the terminal to the edge of the historic centre, from where the cathedral, Roman amphitheatre, and the sweeping Bastione di Saint Remy terrace are all an easy walk. If you want sand and sea instead, Poetto Beach's eight-kilometre promenade is a short bus ride away, backed by cafés and beach clubs.
