Overview
Kahului Harbor is a working commercial port with little to see right at the gate, so nearly every Maui port day starts with a shuttle, taxi, or rental car out to somewhere else on the island. That somewhere is usually the Road to Hana, the legendary highway winding along Maui's northeast coast past waterfalls, black-sand beaches, and rainforest — or the resort beaches of Ka'anapali and Wailea in the opposite direction. Whichever way you go, Kahului itself is purely a launching point, not a destination.

If you're driving the Road to Hana yourself, start as early as possible, don't try to reach Hana town itself (the drive there and back eats the whole day) — instead pick 3–4 waterfall and viewpoint stops within the first two hours and turn back in time for the ship.

Book something — Kahului Harbor has nothing within walking distance, so independent travellers need a rental car or taxi regardless.
