One of Europe's best-preserved medieval old towns, and one of the easiest walks off any ship in the Baltic.
Overview
Tallinn does more with a short walk than almost any other Baltic port. Ships dock directly at the pier, no tender required, and the entrance to the UNESCO-listed Old Town — Fat Margaret's Tower — is about a kilometre away, a flat, well-signposted 15–20 minute walk. Inside the walls, medieval lanes, watchtowers, and the Gothic Town Hall ringing the market square make for one of the best-preserved old towns in Northern Europe, easily explored without a guide. It's compact enough to see the highlights in a few hours, leaving time for a museum or the Estonian Open Air Museum further out.

Marzipan

Walk in through Fat Margaret's Tower and head straight for the Town Hall Square, then climb one of the viewing platforms — Kohtuotsa or Patkuli — on Toompea Hill for the best photos over the old town's red rooftops.
