Overview

Trieste is a graceful port at the head of the Adriatic, once the main seaport of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and it still has the coffee-house culture and grand waterfront buildings to prove it. The cruise terminal is a three-to-five minute walk from Piazza Unità d'Italia, Europe's largest sea-facing square. Miramare Castle is a short bus ride away, and day trips run into Slovenia for Postojna Cave and Ljubljana.
