Sun Princess launched in February 2024 as the lead ship of Princess Cruises' new Sphere Class, bringing a bold modern design language to a line famous for destination-first itineraries. She combines Princess's hallmark service consistency with MedallionClass wearable tech, 21 decks of dining and entertainment, and the line's strongest itinerary programme — Mediterranean in summer, Caribbean in winter. For travellers who care as much about where they go as what's on board, Sun Princess strikes the best balance of itinerary quality and onboard experience.

✦ The standout feature

MedallionClass technology — a wearable smart device (smaller than a quarter) that opens your cabin door, orders food and drinks to anywhere on the ship, tracks family members in real time, and lets you skip queues for almost everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MedallionClass and is it worth it?
MedallionClass is Princess's proprietary wearable technology — a small device you wear like a keychain or wristband. It unlocks your cabin automatically, lets you order food and drinks to any location on the ship via the OceanNow app, tracks family members' locations, and streamlines boarding and disembarkation. It's genuinely useful and one of the most practical tech implementations at sea.
Is Sun Princess good for Mediterranean cruising?
It's one of the best ships for it. The itineraries are exceptional — ports include Barcelona, Santorini, Mykonos, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice, Dubrovnik and more. The ship is sized to access most ports directly rather than anchoring offshore, and Princess's enrichment programme includes expert destination talks and cultural content.
How does Sun Princess differ from older Princess ships?
Sun Princess is the first of the new Sphere Class, bringing a significantly more modern design aesthetic. The interior layout, dining concept, and entertainment spaces are all redesigned compared to the Grand and Royal class ships. The MedallionClass technology is also more integrated than on older Princess vessels.
What dining venues are included in the fare on Sun Princess?
The International Dining Room, World Fresh Marketplace buffet, and several casual venues are all included. Specialty restaurants (Crown Grill, Sabatini's, The Catch by Rudi, Bayou Café) charge a cover fee, typically $20–$45 per person. The Premier dining package bundles multiple specialty reservations at a saving.
