Norwegian Fjords Cruises 2027

One of Europe's most scenic cruises, with a short, bright season.

The Norwegian fjords are about the scenery from the deck. Ships sail slowly between steep walls of rock, past waterfalls and tiny farms, and the ports are small villages at the heads of the fjords. A day spent sailing into the Geirangerfjord is the reason most people book this route.

The season is short and the choice of route is wide, from a 7-night round trip from the UK that sticks to the main fjords to longer routes that continue north toward the Arctic Circle. The sections below help you decide which suits you.

When to sail

Best months
June to August, with the longest days, warmest weather and, in the far north, the midnight sun.
Shoulder season
May and September. Quieter, cooler, and with fewer ships in the narrow fjords.
When to think twice
Winter is not a cruise season for the fjords. Outside May to September there are very few sailings.

When to book for 2027

The fjords have a short season and the most popular summer sailings sell early, particularly from the UK. Shoulder-season dates are a good way to get a quieter experience at a lower fare.

Check prices and dates with your cruise line or travel agent. We do not quote fares because they change daily.

Norwegian Fjords cruise questions

When is the best time for a Norwegian fjords cruise?+

June to August has the warmest weather and the longest days. May and September are quieter, with lower fares but cooler and more changeable weather.

Which is the best fjord to visit by cruise ship?+

The Geirangerfjord is the best known and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Nærøyfjord, reached from Flåm, is narrower and quieter, and Flåm also has the famous railway. Many routes include both.

Does the ship dock at every fjord port?+

Not always. Some of the smaller ports, such as Geiranger, can require ships to anchor, with passengers taken ashore by tender, so check your itinerary and the port guide.
